As part of the composing strand of the NZ Choral Federation Choral Connect National Conference 2017, I was blessed to have my work 'Ave Maria' (a choral piece I composed as a freshman) selected and workshopped at by the New Zealand Youth Choir. During my second year of study, I was fortunate to be given this opportunity to work with Eriks Esenvalds, Latvian choral composer, who critiqued and gave compositional advice to my work along with 9 other composers who attended the event. Among those 9 was Christopher Artley, an international renowned choral composer, who had his piece 'I Sing of a Maiden' workshopped by the NYC also. We concluded the week with a concert on 12/07/2017 with guest conductor 'Andre Thomas' conducting. Leonie Holmes, senior lecturer of composition at the University of Auckland had this to say about my piece 'Ave Maria'
"A very musical and singable setting, harmony and word accents handled very well."
